Frequently asked questions

What BESS electrical safety training courses does Avonside provide?

Avonside offers three structured levels of BESS electrical safety training: BESS Safety Awareness for personnel accessing or working adjacent to installations, BESS Authorised Person Training for engineers and technicians responsible for isolation, maintenance and testing, and BESS Electrical Safety Managers Awareness for managers and those responsible for electrical safety governance.

Does completing the BESS Authorized Person course make me an Authorised Person?

The BESS Authorized Person Training course develops the theoretical and practical knowledge required for personnel who may be considered for appointment as a BESS Authorized Person within their employer's Electrical Safety Programme. Completing the course does not automatically confer Authorized Person status; formal appointment remains the responsibility of the employer, subject to their own assessment, system-specific familiarisation and authorization process.

Can Avonside tailor BESS training to our specific installation and procedures?

Yes. We can adapt training programmes to reflect a client's specific BESS architecture, manufacturer equipment, electrical schematics, site Electrical Safety Rules, isolation procedures, lockout/tagout arrangements, Permit-to-Work systems and existing competence frameworks. For organisations operating multiple BESS sites, we can help develop a standardised training and authorization framework applicable across the portfolio.

How does BESS training support compliance with US electrical safety legislation?

BESS training helps employers demonstrate compliance with U.S. electrical safety requirements by ensuring employees understand the hazards and safe working practices relevant to battery energy storage systems. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.332 requires electrical safety training for employees exposed to electrical hazards, while 29 CFR 1910.333 and 1910.335 set requirements for de-energisation, qualified persons, safe work practices and appropriate protective equipment. Avonside Inc’s BESS training provides a structured, practical route to developing competent personnel, supporting safer operations, stronger compliance and clear evidence that electrical risks are being effectively managed.

How are BESS training programmes delivered and where do courses take place?

Programmes can be delivered online or at the client's own premises, or on-site at a BESS installation. Delivery options include classroom-based training, practical exercises, live online sessions for awareness and management-level content, and bespoke company programmes. Refresher training is also available to support ongoing competence management.
